Welcome back to a new season of QuArtz! We have a new steering committee heading up the group this year, Shirley and Joan will be our main contacts for the group and they have organized a team to help them out through the year.
We want to thank Christine, Sandie and Jeanette for their many years of excellent leadership!
The membership is now due, $25 a year for QuArtz. You must also be a member of the VSSQ guild, their membership is due in November.
The quilt show is coming up and Sandie handed out schedules to those who have volunteered already. The Friday night slot is looking for a volunteer as well. Don't forget that the drop off of your quilts is on Thursday, September 25 from 9:00 to 12:00. You will be handing your QuArtz pieces to Sandie.
We have a new Challenge for the 2025/2026 season!
The theme is HOME.
The quilts will be displayed on a stretched canvas 18"x24" in landscape orientation.
You may make one quilt and wrap it around the canvas or you can make several smaller ones and mount them on the canvas. They must be quilted however you decide to present them. There will be more information about this at future meetings.
We are also looking into venues to display our Trailblazing Women quilts in the next couple of years. More information to come. We are also seeing if we can get an article into Canadian Quilter Magazine.
Tool Box Tuesdays
Tool box Tuesdays will continue this year with a small technique demo each month. An idea and sign up sheet was passed around and new idea's are always welcome, particularly if you can do the demo too! We will put our technique pieces into an Accordion Book this year. There are many ways of making these and we will have more samples and idea's at the October meeting. If you have older copies of Quilting Arts there are some wonderful pictures of one of their previous challenges- making Fabric Altered Books. Issue 14 and 15 (2004) have pictures and articles on the books the readers made.
Beads
We are continuing with a secondary theme this year and will be looking into Beads. If you have an idea for making beads let Shirley know. We have a few lined up so far, boho beads, wool beads, fabric beads, Fimo beads. I am sure there are many more and we will look at them over the course of the season.
In January Brigitte will talk to us about the issue of Copyright.
We talked about having a workshop this year. If you have an idea of someone to come and teach us a technique, like Janet Scruggs did last season then please let the committee know. It would require us to pay an extra fee to make this happen this year.
Show and Tell
Elisabeth
Elisabeth went to a 3 day dyeing workshop at the Community Arts Centre in Vernon last month and has many wonderful pieces she made there.

Jan
Jan made a flower for our large pot display at the Quilt Show. A beautiful sunflower and butterfly.
Christine
Christine brought in a framed fabric piece she made a few years ago by stitching and then melting away portions of the top fabric. Very nicely done. She also showed us some collage on paper pieces.
Brigitte
Brigitte brought in her sun printing and veggie stamping from our last meeting. Love the green and pink tag she made with corn and Brussel sprouts!

Shirley W.
Shirley showed us a very crinkled leaf she made with fun felt. This will likely be one of our Tool Box Tuesday demo's.
