A new season begins, September!

We were missing a couple of members today but managed to decide on some of our displays for the upcoming quilt show.

Christine brought in an example of Birch Bark Biting, the subject came up last month in conversation and it was very interesting to see it in person.  But no worries all, we won't be trying the technique ourselves!

Whispers update:  The photo was delivered, in a sealed envelope, to Betty and she has now sent a picture of her work and a short statement on to Elisabeth.   Joan is next in line so will get her hand off at the end of the month.

Indigo dyeing

A lot of lovely indigo dyed scarves, wool, cotton, linen and silk were brought in to organize for the display at the quilt show.  The variety in colour and shade were beautiful to see.   I don't remember exactly whose are whose but here are the finished products.  Excellent work everyone!

Joan showed us her technique for Facing a Quilt.  Very nice and no bulk in the corners which can be a major problem with other methods.  If you don't have a copy I can email you one.

Quilt Show

We looked at our A Page From My Book quilts that will be displayed at the VSSQ Quilt Show on September 23 & 24th.   There will be no pictures here as some were unfinished and some missing. We did get to hear the stories behind the creating of an amazingly diverse collection of quilts.            Looking forward to seeing them all hanging together!

The Coming Year

Christine, Sandie and Jeanette have been busy brain storming for the new season of QuArtz.

They have decided on the theme of   Raising the Surface

The idea is to explore interesting dimensional techniques as well as other methods for creating unique small pieces.  The thought is to make shadow boxes, small enough to maybe sell at a reasonable price at ArtWalk next September? Here is a general idea of what we mean.  Of course, this being QuArtz where rules mean nothing, the plan is flexible and open to input.

Christine has a rough guideline for the new year.

Jeanette is going to introduce us to Tassels this year.   A monthly item will be presented.

I think it sounds like a busy and exciting new season!

April

Spring is here and we are back again. Gallery Vertigo is having it's Grand Opening on Thursday April 11, 6 to 8 pm at the new location...
