We had a good turn out for our meeting in spite of it being Valentine's Day.
Myrna brought a guest, Sarah a Fibre artist from Salmon Arm.
We have been asked to bring our triangle background pieces and a short artist statement to next month's meeting, March 14. They will be shown at the March 16 meeting of the VSSQ.
We are starting at 10am again in March, bringing lunch and then going over to Gallery Vertigo to see the FAN exhibit, Threads of Hope. It has been travelling for a few years and this is it's last showing.
We also have a trunk show by Annette Cameron and a pot luck lunch. Once again no seafood please as there is a severe allergy.
Whispers Update
The hand off took place a few days early for some this month. Judith and Bev are working on their pieces now and will hand off to Linda and Sandie for March.
We talked about helping with Lorraine's large amount of supplies and hand made clothing. A very large job to sort this out for her husband. Joyce has agreed to be the contact and Shirley will assist. They will talk about plans and ideas with the regular guild and see what they can put together. Some of the fabric was shared at the meeting and if you are inclined to donate it will be appreciated.
Jeanette brought along her clock domes for all but the idea of what to do with them will be saved for next year.
Show and tell:
Sandie has been busy as usual and brought along a bunch of different tassels including two of her grand daughters. She did have to promise to return those!
Elisabeth had tassels and hexes and a lovely bag to show us.
Myrna has finished another lovely bag with a tassel!
Brigitte is making a coverlet from yoyo's. She has made an impressive amount so far.
Bev showed us her yoyo pouch, great for holding pencils etc.
Jeanette had a nice wall hanging with a lovely wrought iron look to it.
Joan was off somewhere warm but Shirley brought along her finished triangle background.
Shirley had volunteered to finish an unwanted background, and the fabric pine cones are great.
She has also done 3 Raising the Surface pieces. Very effective!
We had a variety of the boho tassels Brigitte showed us last month.
Tassels by Myrna
Myrna showed us some lovely tassels she made from fabric she twisted and some she created from poor quality threads. She also showed us different ways to make the heads for tassels. She has also made instructional video's on youtube. Very well done! Thank you, Myrna.

Christine presented some ideas for Raising the Surface.
Encasement
Prepare sheer overlay: draw lines on the fabric top to mark sheer placement, lay sheer fabric over area to be covered, sew along marked lines leaving an opening.
Place small objects between the sheer and the fabric top, sew sheer into place, or you can sew loosely around the small objects.
Glue Gun
Be aware that the glue is very, very hot. Do not touch until it cools.
You can draw a design on parchment paper or free draw your shape. Then cover the shape with a piece of tulle/netting/chiffon. It can be tricky following lines but some wobble adds to the character. Raise the gun and draw your shape. A bit like icing a cake! I found that I needed fairly thick strands otherwise it disintegrated. You could drop beads into the hot glue. Squirting the glue into a bowl of cold water can cause lacy patterns. Place the piece in a bowl of cold water and once cool you can gently tear off the parchment paper.
You can stamp into the glue while it is warm, not hot. You can colour with acrylic paints, use embossing powder, metallic wax, wax crayons. Experiment.
Once you are ready to stitch it down then you can stitch round the edges and then cut away the chiffon (or leave if that is your desire). More glue can be added if you wish but be careful you do not burn your fabric.
