April

Spring is here and we are back again.

Gallery Vertigo is having it's Grand Opening on Thursday April 11, 6 to 8 pm at the new location on the main street of downtown Vernon.  It has been open this week and the reviews are very positive with more visitors in the first week than they had in two months at the old location.  Such a welcome addition to the downtown core!

3D

It has been decided that June will be the reveal of your 3D pieces and August will be the reveal of the scrolls.

Batik with Endy

The July and August meetings will be learning about batik from Endy.  She brought along some examples and we went over the supplies needed for the meetings.  There will be more information closer to the date, but if you have any of the following please let her know.

-small deep wax melting pot or fondue pot, it needs to heat to 85C.

-chantings (jtanting) for applying the melted wax, Endy is looking into ordering some more as well

Christine is going to get some bees wax for us.

Show and Tell

Christine showed us a necklace she made from silk cocoons many years ago.

Brigitte brought here Herringbone stitch for her scroll

Jan is back from a holiday in Sedona and made a small quilt to celebrate.  She captured the colour and feel of the area very well.

Shirley has done a couple of online courses with her favourite quilt artist, Carol Bryer-Fallet Gentry of www.bryerpatch.com.  Check it out as some of these are free courses.

Cath has finished the raven she made to go on a strip background and finished her 3D piece early so brought it in as well.

Look closely to see Mama bird sitting on her nest.

Elisabeth filled her fabric ball with dried soup mix for a nice fragrance.  She has also done a lovely long spiral from concentric circles.

Suzanne has another wonderful very large quilt she designed and sewed and then had Endy quilt it.

Whispers

Brigitte talked about her Whispers piece.  She followed Cath and her hot air balloon's but found her inspiration in the write up as it mentioned a carnival.  She used the theme of Carnival to continue her mask theme that has shown up in her work for the last few years.  Various techniques were used to make the masks and then fusible appliqué was used to add the features.  And since it is Carnival some sparkle was necessary and she used sequins held on by beads.

3D

Cathy made us do math!  But we did end up knowing how to draw a hexagon.

She also brought along her Starry Night piece based on Page 89 - Hexagonal Base.

Cathy also made a vase based on Prisms, Page 91.  Love the feathers standing in it.

Embroidery Stitch

Brigitte gave us our embroidery stitch this month,  The Buttonhole Stitch.  A wonderful reference for embroidery is Pintangle.com      https://pintangle.com/  These images are from the site.  For many more wonderful variations go to the site.

You can also arrange them around a circle
