August meeting

We started off the meeting with a quick Joltz - Squiggle Birds!  Draw an enclosed squiggle, pass it on to your neighbour.  Now add feet, beak, eyes and a tail!  You have a bird.  This could be lots of fun for free motion quilting practice.

Brigitte, all hand sewn!

Tonny came with a wonderful challenge as her August presentation.  She gave us a print out of 3 leaves and the challenge is to make a quilt with any or all of the leaves.  Any shape you want and with a circumference of under 40 inches/100cm.

But!

The quilt must be done in just 1 colour.  As many tints and shades as you like.  Background in the same colour.  You may use 2 neighbouring colours, one on each side of your chosen colour.  The intention is to create an analogous quilt.

Her instructions and leaves were sent out in an email with the meeting minutes.

You have until October to do it.  It will be a great way to get those creative juices flowing and a lead into the study of symmetry.

Cathy recommends purchasing the book  -  Symmetry: A Design System for Quiltmakers by Ruth B. McDowell.  It is available on Amazon.ca.

We will start looking at Symmetry in October.  Cathy plans on using her Personalize It fabric for her symmetry quilt.

We started gluing the magnets to the back of the tea bags in preparation for displaying them at the quilt show.  Sandi and Elisabeth have taken the background fabric home to appliqué the stems on.  We will finish up the assembly at the September meeting.

Betty is asking for a co-chair to help her out this season.

We are organizing a road trip to Headbones Gallery on Old Kamloops Road after the September meeting.  The exhibit is Colour +  by David Cantine and Robert Dmytruk.  If you can't make the meeting and want to see the exhibit, it runs from August 10 to September 28th.
