August

A hot and sunny day had us back for our August meeting, perfect weather for one of the planned events.

Ella has joined our group, Welcome!  We also had Joan's granddaughter, Findlay, here for the day.

We brought our scrolls along so we could figure out a hanging method for the quilt show.  Jeanette had a couple of curtain rods with rings and clips that will give us a nice presentation.

A good start and will look great when hung at the show.

We talked about some ideas for September, we will continue with Toolbox Tuesdays.  These are small demo's of techniques you can add to your Toolbox of ideas. There will be a sign up sheet next month and if you have any idea's you would like to see included you can send them to Shirley W.    We touched on an idea of how to display samples of these techniques, an accordion book.  We will look at ideas on how to put one together at the September and October meetings.

We filled two tables and some chairs with goodies for our Swap Meet.  It was well supplied with books, patterns, fabrics, embellishments and tools.  Many treasures were swapped and taken home.

Show and Tell

Linda has finished her Pioneering Woman.  She also bought along an accordion book made of paper but with a possible construction technique.

Sandie has turned some of her snow dyed fabric into a pouch.  She also used some gelli prints to decorate a book her granddaughters had drawn in.

Cathy showed a book on Collage Ideas and anther accordion book she made a few years ago.  The pieces are made individually and then sewn together with the fagoting stitch on your machine.

Jeanette made this adorable moose wall hanging as a gift and has a request for another!

We set up three stations for our workshops of the day.

Flower Pounding is first.  And it is as expected, basically put flowers and leaves between fabric and pound them!

Beautiful!

Previously done and faded from light exposure

Original colours

Some more examples at Linda's table

The flower head is from the Veggie Printing and some beautiful dill leaves.

Veggie Printing.  Just stamping with cut veg and acrylic paints.  Some results are better than others.

Corn kernels were the surprise of  the day!

Many coloured pears.

Sun Printing was our third activity.  Damp fabric was coloured with DyeNaFlow paints, covered with a resist or many resists and placed out in the sun till dry.  A perfect day for it!

Supplies

Trial piece to show us how it turns out.

Another example.
