May

Another beautiful day and another fun day at QuArtz!

Housekeeping to start:

Quilt Show Registration reminder.  Your paperwork must be in by June 5.  You can drop it off at the main guild meeting or ask someone else to do that for you.  You have to fill in a form for each piece you are entering.  There is a box to check for a QuArtz entry.  A photograph must accompany your registration form.

We are entering our Trailblazing Women of BC, our scrolls, a 3D piece and one of your previous pieces of your choice.  The piece of your choice cannot be any wider than 24".

We will be having the REVEAL of the Trailblazing Women of BC at our June meeting.  Not a problem if it is still in progress, just bring it along and show the group how you are doing.

Christine, Sandie and Jeanette have been leading the group so well for many years but it has come time for someone else to step up and do some organizing.  You don't have to do it alone, two or three together is a great idea as some of us do like to travel for part of the year.  You will have lots of help from everyone else as well.  Please consider  trying it out for a season or two.  I will be glad to stay on as note taker and do the blog.

On to our main event!

JANET SCRUGGS TRUNK SHOW AND WORKSHOP

 https://www.janetscruggs.com/

Quote from her excellent website:

"I am drawn to textiles of all varieties by an overwheming pull to explore and create.  'What would happen if' is a question I constantly find moves me into yet another adventure of techniques and materials.  This curiosity has led me down many a rabbit hole in my textile travels.  Sometimes I discover something new and fabulous and other times are simply classified as a 'learning experience.'  From surface design to mixed media techniques to digital enhancements, using hand or machine, incorporating dye, paint, pencil crayon, paper, found and recycled objecs, each piece is a testament to my passion.  With each new textile or fibre work I learn and discover."

Janet started off with a trunk show and had so many amazing works for us to admire.  I will post pictures here but I do suggest you look at her website as it has better pictures and a link to her blog with great information on the techniques used.

These are made with the technique she is showing us today, Paper Fabric.

Whew!  What a wonderful trunk show and she graciously answered many questions about how she did each piece.  Then a short demo and she put us to work.

Janet used one of these brushes on her Inktense and a stencil.  Very nice tool.
