Almost spring! It was a lovely sunny day and we met at Brigitte's community room again.
Housekeeping notes:
Most of us have our tea bags back by now to be turned into cards or postcards for Gallery Vertigo.
Sandi has continued to put updates of our adventures in the Guild newsletter, Thank you Sandi for doing this.
We talked again about a summer workshop with an invited guest presenter. A few names were suggested and will be looked into further. Elisabeth and Sandi both have experience with gelly plate printing and screen printing so having them run a workshop is an option to consider.
A reminder that Saturday March 19 is International Quilting Day Quilt Hanging Celebration from 9 to 5pm.
Show and Tell
Cath made this in another group and used the view from the bottom of her yard as inspiration. There might be another one in the spring?
My backyard in winter |
Cath and Judith have been taking an online class with Mary Pal. She works with plain and dyed cheesecloth. The Windswept Pine tree is from her pattern and a great starting point for learning the process. For more pictures and information go to: https://marypaldesigns.com
Cath used a commercial fabric for her background and it is very reminiscent of The Group of Seven's works.
Judith also used a commercial fabric for her background and has produced a totally different Northern Lights image.
Judith has put her fabric from the beginning of the year to use with great effect! She used the over-dyed piece, made marks on it and then created this reflection piece.
Shirley brought along a covered coffee can to hold your sewing supplies, very clever. She also had buttons but I am not sure who's are who's any more so will show them all together further down!
Elisabeth has a black and white piece and some pieced curves as well.
Linda brought along a variety of examples from a class she attended. Looks like she has been busy and colourful!
Brigitte collaborated on a diptych with a friend that is going up for display. Cherry Blossoms in Vancouver. And all hand stitched!
Sandi managed to find some time to needle felt a cute otter in between log cabins, curves and some circles you will see later.
Betty has been forced to sit so she is making buttons, and buttons and more buttons! I am not sure exactly which ones are hers other than the picture with the lovely golden one. So I will put all my button pictures here for you to enjoy!
These are Betty's! |
Jeanette has played with Hopscotch and some pick up sticks of fabric and of course, more buttons.
Jeanette also did a demo on her Checkerboard, it could be used in a variety of places on your quilt.
Brigitte showed us a couple of different ways to stack circles, sew them down and then cut them apart and sew them back together. Sandi had some brightly coloured examples to share as well. The guild has the Pathfinder ruler and instructions if you want to play some more.
